The CD contains over 300 English-Chinese language phrases for those traveling on their own in China. The phrases cover finding lodgings, ordering food, taking local transportation, and asking directions when hiking. Although specifically written to accompany the seven pages of travel phrases in the book Guide to Hiking China's Old Road to Shu, the tape can be used independently as well. The Chinese speaker is a graduate student who grew up near Beijing and the English speaker is the author. Each of the first 17 tracks deals with a specific topic such as lodgings or taxi transport. Tracks 18-23 contain the most important phrases repeated twice with pauses for practice.
